==Basic Information==
Don’t be fooled, this is not the same thing as the regular [[Shotgun|shotgun]] with less range. Indeed, the crucial aspect of this weapon lies in its type: single-handed, as opposed to the shotgun’s two-handed. This weapon is a handy one (no pun intended) for the budding gunslinger. The [[Knockback]] chance that comes standard with all shotguns is an extra perk for those pesky melee critters and raiders. The fairly good stats of the [[12 ga. Shotgun Shells|12 gauge]] round as well as the potential to use its many variants is another plus. However, the pathetic range of 7 hexes can’t be left ignored, and you will be reloading frequently. Consider the [[.44 Magnum Revolver]] with a [[Speed Loader]] instead, if you’re feeling lucky. One-handed weapon users looking for another burst weapon on this tier might be interested in the [[M3A1 "Grease Gun" SMG|grease gun]]. The "accurate" perk is also mostly useless for this weapon.

==Background==
Sawed-off shotguns have historically played a strong role in urban crime. Their short length makes it easier to conceal, and the devastating power of the 12 gauge shotgun shell will render some targets dead with one shell. This makes it popular among criminal types. Another advantage is that break-action shotguns are legendarily robust, to the point that they're virtually indestructible if the proper ammunition is always used -- this again suits mobsters that had no knowledge of firearms maintenance. Long before the war, sawed-off shotguns were considered illegally manufactured pistols, and would result in jail time if found in possession.
